Purpose Statement
We are committed to facilitate growth and awareness by the individual young man or young woman of their need. We are exclusively Christian staff and although our program places the young people, as well as the staff, in an environment far removed from modern conveniences, it is all focused from a Biblical perspective. Our focus is to facilitate a better relationship between them and their parents.
We primarily uses the horses to reveal their behavioral problems, whether it be:
- Lack of respect
- Hostility toward loved ones
- Defiance toward authority
- Eating disorders
- Truancy
- Drugs, substance abuse, alcohol etc
- Violence
- Depression
- Unpredictable behavior
- Etc
Horses mirror human behavior, and the client readily recognizes, and acknowledges his/her individual need. We have many case studies that demonstrate the viability of this program.
There is NO CO-ED program. Women staff will stay with the young ladies, and men staff with the young men. However, Paul Griffis will always be there to work with the horses, during daylight hours.
We are committed to safety, and will do everything possible to minimize accidents. We are dedicated to the safety and well-being of both the young people and the horses.
We, as a Christian organization, are fully cognizant that ultimately the client must make his or her own choices, and our focus is on Jesus Christ. For that reason we have a devotional--- World View every night before going to sleep.
ITEMS NOT PERMITTED
- No weapons of any kind (Knives, guns, razorblades etc)
- No smoking at all
- No drugs (Each client’s things will be searched for any drugs, cigarettes etc, and will be taken away.)
- No alcohol
Dress
All dress must be modest and appropriate for weather conditions. (Time of year) Jeans must be worn when working with the horses, as well as shoes, such as tennis shoes, or boots. No person will be allowed to wear sandals, or flip flops while working with the horses.
We recommend bringing a modest, one-piece bathing suit.
Washing clothes
The clothes are washed at the campsite, and hung up to dry on a clothesline.
Cooking
All of the cooking will be done on the campfire and will be done in a safe manner. We have had literally 30 years of experience cooking on an outdoor campfire.
Sleeping quarters
The 4 young people will be in a one-room cabin, along with 2 staff counselors. The counselors are with them 24/7. The cabin is well insulated and set up with a wood heater for the winter months.
Personal hygiene
We have a nice outhouse, which is well maintained. Showers are taken in a camp shower. (It is very modest.) We do require each individual to maintain good hygiene. This means that each person is required to bring toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and any other necessary item pertinent to personal hygiene.
